UDL-is the abbreviation for Universal Design for Learning. This is the idea of incorporating flexibility in classroom instruction for the needs of all learners so that it is for the benefit of the whole class rather than singling out, handicapping, and only benefiting a few.

Assistive Technology is the service that helps an individual succeed in the task they set out to accomplish. High and low tech devices are considered when fitting the right device with a student. IDEA-
IEP-is the abbreviation for Individualized Education Plan. This is a legal document (and responsibility) that allows the stakeholders (parents, teachers, etc) in a student's academic life to meet and discuss the needs of the student. They determine specific goals to meet, technology needed, communicate needs, and clarify roles in this written document.

ESL-is the abbreviation for English as a Second Langauage.
RTI-- the abbreviation for Response to Intervention: http://www.ldonline.org/article/Response_to_Intervention_%28RTI%29%3A__A_Primer_for_Parents. This is an approach in education aimed to detect problems early and solve them as soon as possible. Graphs and data are used in this approach to education as well as a three tiered decision making process to determine the amount of support to give a student. The student can move freely between the tiers as needed and allows the educators to provide the child with the best possible education they can.
LRE-- the abbreviation for Least Restrictive Environment: This is the idea that students should be put in an environment that will help them the most educationally as well as isolate them the least from the general education program. Most students with learning disabilities are able to stay in the general education classroom; however, for some, the LRE may be going to a resource room for an hour a day to get extra help on their school work and then be sent back to the general education classroom. The spectrum continues from completely staying in the classroom all the way to being in a special education classroom all day. A learning disability is when a student can not perform in any one or more of the school subjects (math, reading, science, etc) because of processing limitations of the brain. These can include, but are not limited to, conditions such as dyslexia, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.
OT-is the abbreviation for an Occupational Therapist. A stakeholder in the student's academic life who works with the student on life skills such as motor skills, life skills, etc.
Paraprofessional-
PT-is the abbreviation for a Physical Therapist.This person is a stakeholder in the student's academic life who works with the their physical needs such as exercises needed to work on muscle and joint strength or the like.
SLP-is the abbreviation for a Speech Language Pathologist. A speech language pathologist is a stakeholder in the student's academic life who works with the student on speech needs, such as producing speech. This may be caused because of a development issue or another similar problem (language acquisition, etc) that they can help remedy.
